ABOUT FRANK

British English. British Culture. A Different Perspective.

Helping you understand not just the English people use — but what they really mean.

I’m Frank Burke, a British English communication coach with a clear, neutral British accent that’s easy for international learners to understand.

I spent more than 22 years living and working in Hong Kong, first in international business and later in education, before returning to the UK. That experience gave me a rather unusual perspective: I know British culture from the inside, but after so many years overseas, I also understand why British communication can be confusing from the outside.

Today, I help people communicate more naturally and confidently in English — particularly those who want to understand the language, humour, politeness and unwritten rules of everyday British life.

I also create videos about British culture and communication, exploring the things that textbooks rarely explain.

A LITTLE MORE ABOUT ME

Business, Education And 22+ Years In Hong Kong

My approach to communication comes from a mixture of business experience, teaching and more than two decades living overseas.

Business Background

Before moving fully into education and coaching, I spent many years in international business, including running my own trading company in Hong Kong.

22+ Years In Hong Kong

Living and working in Hong Kong gave me first-hand experience of communicating across cultures — and of seeing British culture from a very different perspective.

English & Communication

I’m CELTA-qualified and have spent many years teaching English, with a particular focus today on natural communication rather than textbook English.

MBA, Durham University

My business background also includes an MBA from Durham University, which helps shape my approach to professional and workplace communication.

COMMON QUESTIONS

A Few Things You Might Want To Know

Who do you work with?

I work mainly with adults and older students who want to communicate more naturally and confidently in English, particularly in British everyday and professional situations.

What makes your coaching different from a traditional English lesson?

We don't just focus on grammar and vocabulary. We look at how English is actually used — including indirect language, politeness, humour, tone and the cultural expectations that can make British communication difficult to navigate.

Are your coaching sessions online?

Yes. My 1-to-1 coaching is online, so I work with clients in the UK, Hong Kong and elsewhere.

Ready To Communicate With More Confidence?

Work with me one-to-one on the English and communication situations that matter to you.
